Knit in Public Day Tea

The 3rd Annual Knit In Public Day Tea will be held at Piney Creek Yarn on June 11 from Noon to 2PM. The event will include a variety of teas, and snacks fitting our Chinese tea theme. Regular, gluten free, vegan options, and a 15% discount on the day's purchases. The tea is held outside on our front patio.

Every one of the 12 Squares in this afghan uses a different knitting technique. Some of the techniques used are entrelac, intarsia, mitered squares, cables and stranded colorwork. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn something new. Make all 12 squares for a full size afghan or select just the squares you wish to learn and use them to make a baby sized blanket or a lap blanket or pillows. PLEASE NOTE: This is a free class when you purchase your yarn from Piney Creek Yarn. The sign up fee will be credited toward your yarn purchase. If you would like to participate without making a yarn purchase the sign up fee will become your class fee. If you have previously purchased yarn from us that you would like to use for this project, please sign up for the KAL in person or by phone.

White Elephant

What a great baby gift, (In any color combination) this elephant can be made to about any size depending on the yarn and needles used. The pattern used DK weight yarn US#2 needles and makes an elephant that is approximately 5" tall. Larger needles and yarn will make a larger Elephant. The model in the store was made with a super bulky yarn and US10 needles and he stands about 12" tall. The project is worked entirely on double point needles.

Oban Sweater (Cardigan or Pullover)

This pattern is available as both a Cardigan or a pullover. There is a model of the cardigan in the store. They are both lovely and very wearable. Knit seamlessly from the bottom to the sleeves, the sleeves are knit in the round from the top down and the shoulders are done with a 3 needle bind off. The only sewing is to attach the buttons on the cardigan version. We will meet every two week for 5 sessions (7.5 hours of instruction) so most will be able to complete the sweater by the time the class ends.

Beginning Inkle Weaving Class

Inkle Weaving is a fun way to learn about weaving without the investment of expensive equipment to start out. An Inkle loom is a portable belt loom that is simple to warp up. Inkle bands can be used to make belts, straps, bookmarks, ornaments and more. You will learn to warp your loom and read patterns so you can re-warp a loom on your own. Finishing techniques will also be covered. We will choose the cotton yarn we will use at the beginning of class.

Learn to Weave on a Rigid Heddle

A Rigid Heddle Loom is the perfect tool to expand your fiber working skills. Making your own cloth is fast and fun and opens up a world of possibilities for new projects. Make bags, scarves, towels, blankets and more. Come join us for the day learning about Rigid Heddle Weaving. You will learn how to warp the loom to make a colorful scarf. The instructor will help you pick out your yarn at the beginning of class. You will need approximately 250 to 350 yards depending on the size of the yarn. We will discuss weaving terms, how to figure warp and weft, some simple design possibilities and how to finish off your scarf.
